A new study finds that periods of extreme drought and heat could “soon and repeatedly” happen over much of Europe. Researchers project the likelihood that Europe will experience “end-of-century” heat and drought events – that is, events that would typically occur in 2100 in a “much warmer world” – over the coming decades. They find that “end-of-century heat and drought levels virtually impossible 20 years ago reach 1-in-10 likelihoods as early as the 2030s”.
