  • 16 large Nordic investors are now sending a letter to the electric car manufacturer Tesla and urging the company to reconsider the current approach to the union.
  • Investors are “deeply concerned about the current conflict in Sweden”, says Kiran Aziz at Norway’s largest pension company KLP to Ekot.
  • If Tesla does not change its mind, it may become relevant to sell the shares in the company and leave the part ownership, she says, but adds that it is a last resort.

Large Nordic investors are now sending a letter to Tesla and want the company to sign a collective agreement in Sweden.

  • Tesla must relate to the rules, and the context, that exist where they operate and not bring the American one over to other countries, says Kiran Aziz at Norway’s largest pension company KLP to Ekot.

The letter states that the major investors want Tesla to “reconsider the current approach to the union”.

The American electric car manufacturer does not want to sign a collective agreement in Sweden, and therefore there is currently a high-profile strike against the company.

A total of 16 Nordic institutional investors have sent the letter to Tesla, including the Swedish Folksam. Folksam does not want to comment on the letter further.

The letter, which Ekot has seen, was recently sent to Tesla and in it the investors write that “we are deeply concerned about the current conflict in Sweden and Tesla’s attitude towards the right to collective agreements”.

Kiran Aziz says that it is difficult to know if Tesla will listen and sign a collective agreement.

  • Then we will see what the answer and response will be.

The investors now want a meeting with Tesla management to discuss this.

“We seek a dialogue with you about your handling of the highlighted issues and would like to request a meeting in early 2024 to discuss this,” the letter says.

If Tesla does not change its mind, it may be appropriate to sell the shares in the company and thereby leave part ownership, says Kiran Aziz on Norwegian KLP.

  • This is the last opportunity we have, but we primarily want the company to meet our expectations, she tells Ekot.
