As most of you know, a few months ago gfycat was discontinued. Before it shut down we tried to back up as much as possible from the sub and the discord and from other profiles that posted kpop content. It resulted in about 300k files and 6TB of data. We will share all of it eventually, but for the first round, we are sharing the gfys from the sub. The individual cuts usually posted in the comments are not included at this time. The total size is 871GB.

The reason it took some time is because I spent a lot of time labeling the gfys properly, fixing spelling errors, sorting them into folders, and had their “date modified” field changed to the reddit post date. This means you can sort them by “date modified” in your file explorer. You can also sort them by upvotes as it is the first thing in the filename. I recommend using Everything 1.5 alpha (the stable release is not as good and has problems sorting by upvotes) as it is much better than many file explorers, especially windows’ explorer. The filename follows this pattern:

[upvotes][title][reddit post id][post date][gfycat name]

There are two ways to download the gfys:

Mega is the faster alternative but limits how much you can download every day unless you pay a small fee $5-$10 depending on where you are located. If you choose this option, make sure you use the MEGASync app to download the gfys (i get a small cut if you sign up through this link). This is usually much faster than downloading through the browser. Also, the modified date of the files is preserved this way which is important if you want to sort and filter by post date. If you download through the browser, the modified date will not be preserved. After you open MEGAsync, click on the tray icon and then select “transfer manager”. After that click on “open links”, paste the url below…

Torrents are the slower alternative, but free. It will take longer to download everything but if you’re not in a rush it’s the best option. If you don’t have a bittorrent client i recommend qbittorrent. Add this magnet link in your bittorrent client.

When will the rest of the files, like the ones posted on the discord, be shared?

Not sure. Soon. However, discord gfys will be announced on the discord NOT on the subreddit, so make sure you join the discord and check the #announcements channel.

How are the gfys structured?

The gfys are put into folders based on their current group. Some will be put in the MULTI folder if there are multiple idols from different groups in the same gfy. If the idol has been in multiple groups they will be put in the folder of their latest group, but also have the previous group in the filename. For example, wonyoung gfys will be named something like “ive izone wonyoung”. In the izone folder, you will only find the ones that didn’t join a new group, like yena or yuri. Wonyoung will be put in the IVE folder. Less popular groups will not have their own folder and will be put in MIXED.

How do I find gfys between 2 dates in Everything

Put this in the search bar

dm:YYMMDD-YYMMDD

for example “dm:180501-190323 sana” will give you sana gfys between May 1st 2018 and March 23 2019. This only works if you use torrents. If you are using the browser to download through mega, it will not work.

How do i find gfys from a specific date?

The post date is in the title so just type the date in this format YYMMDD. The date is when it was posted on reddit.

What about imgur backups?

We’re working on it. Check back in a month or two. Imgur deleted a lot, and not everything could be saved, but quite a lot of it could be.

I only want some of the gfys not the entire archive!?

If you are using mega and downloading from the browser, just right click on that folder or file and select download. I don’t recommend using the browser to download as it will erase the “modified date” of the files. But if you don’t care, then it doesn’t matter.

If you are using MEGAsync, which is recommended, just open the archive, click on the folder you want, and select “share link”. Then click “copy link”, then open MEGAsync, click on the tray icon in the bottom right and then select “transfer manager”. After that click on “open links”, paste the url you just copied. Then select where you want to download the files. That’s it.

If you are using torrents, you should be able to select on the folders/files you want to download in your torrent client.

Lastly, KPFarchive is a reddit mirror which I made to make it easier to search, filter, and sort the posts on the subreddit. It doesn’t host any files because bandwidth is expensive, it just links to the submission. Most of the older posts are unfortunately gfycat posts. But with this mega/torrent backup you will be able to download those gfys.
