As an elder millennial, I smoked a lot of pot back in the early 2000’s, and pretty much never since, but I have been interested in dabbling now that it’s so accessible and normalized. I settled on some gummies that are 5mg THC and 5mg CBD, which sounded like a good place to start for a new beginner. One night, a few hours before bed, I took half of one, and by bed time, didn’t really notice anything, so the next night I took a full one, and by bed time, I noticed a faint aura of happiness and relaxed feelings. I concluded that these weren’t strong enough to get me high, but they are still nice, so I continued to take them in the evening a few hours before bed.

Yesterday, I had plans that included a bunch of family getting together and going to a niece’s dance recital, and so I thought I might as well take one of the few gummies I have left to feel relaxed through the ordeal. About 3 hours later, I started to notice that I was indeed starting to feel high…but that’s not the fuck-up; it was a perfectly mild and pleasant high and I had a great time.

The fuck up is this: I didn’t anticipate that it would take me a full 3 hours to peak. The full effect of the previous gummies was wasted because I had been asleep when it happened.

That being said, a significant fuck-up was avoided, because it’s likely that I would have tried a much higher dose and potentially became yet another person who overdosed themselves and had a bad time. So heed my cautionary tale, and wait longer than 1-2 hours before deciding that a gummy has peaked, in case you’re like me.

TL;DR: I wasted most of my THC gummies because I went to sleep before they took full effect.
