This is the best summary I could come up with:

When visiting a beach in the UK, you might put a pebble or a shell in your pocket as a souvenir, but one council is saying people could get into trouble for removing these coastal reminders.Cumberland Council in the North West of England is telling people they could be fined up to £1000 for taking away pebbles and shells. It says it’s against the law to take any natural materials from the beach. The Coast Protection Act 1949 states that people are not allowed to remove natural materials like sand, shells and pebbles. And while not all councils choose to enforce the law, Cumberland Council says there are important reasons for the rule.

It may seem like taking a pebble or two from the beach wouldn’t make much difference, but experts say it can make coastal erosion worse.Coastal erosion is when land by the sea is worn away.Suzana Ilic from Lancaster Environment Centres told Newsround although one pebble taken from the beach might not make a difference, collectively it could “disturb the natural system”.

Pebbles and other natural materials also protect against flooding and provide habitats for wildlife.Scientists say the more pebbles there are the more protection there is.Suzana says that whilst it’s fun to play with pebbles on the beach, children should avoid taking them home as souvenirs.“It is great to play with pebbles and shells responsibly on the beach but they should be left in the environment where they belong,” she said.

Bob Kelly from Cumberland Council says he understands why some people disagree with the rules.

“I understand people’s reluctance to follow this guidance, as I have been a collector of shells myself.

But taking a pebble or a shell from a beach, can in fact damage the environment.

Is there anything legal in UK? They build their society as if 1984 was a blueprint for society.
