Paywall breaker:

Columnist Lydia Polgreen takes apart the Cass Review as based upon “value judgments” rather than scientific ones. Her arguments are similar to the autism activists who insist that autism is not a disease or defect to be cured. She insists “transgenderism” is simply a way of being, one that children simply “know” and should be left alone to pursue based on Expertise from All the Major Medical Associations™️, and not a growing problem to be curtailed.

At the same time, she admits there is no biological evidence for transgenderism, but “treatment” should continue and judges/politicians should butt out nonetheless, because children should have the right to have their queer lives affirmed. Whatever that means. All the opposition to “trans kids” is from right-wing reactionaries who wanted to force people into restrictive bourgeois conformity standards like getting a job, and normie centrist liberal pearl-clutchers invested in respectability politics instead of radical queer liberation.

Can Jesse please do a mini-surgical breakdown on this piece because it seems like the NYT is still drunk on its GLAAD-intimidation hangover.
