I’ve had it for a few weeks now, bought it with the flex keyboard early in August through microsoft store using education discount for ~$1750 😭

WHY I GET TO TALK

owned surface pro 3, 4, 8, and now this one.

THE GOOD

the screen

rtings just put out their review of the screen a few days ago so I finally feel comfortable talking about how superlatively good the screen is. The blacks are jet black in a dark room, brightness goes super bright, and the color calibration out the box makes Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Mad Max Fury Road look eye poppingly good.

I would say I’m used to surface screens but this one is good enough to be noticeably better than the sp8’s. As a note, I don’t notice the effect that I’ve read about in other reviews on reddit about white screen graininess at all - i’ve put my face up to the screen and looked. Maybe I simply have awful eyes, idk

battery life

battery life is actually better than any of the surface line before it. I use batterybarpro and it gives me 8-10 hours using it to browse, watch youtube and twitch, and download software. the sp8 came out to 6 hours flat at the extreme most when i using it in much the same way, usually more like 4 and a half to 5 hours when throwing notetaking in onenote + a few school apps like drawboard or email into the mix.

I restart it often to refresh after installing software so I haven’t really had the chance to see how good sleep/standby are but when i go to sleep watching youtube it loses 1-2% at the most by the time i wake up and check.

they don’t let me use it for work things so it’s strictly been used as a browser and gaming machine so far with note taking and school apps being added to that list in a few weeks. I will come back to this post when I start school for a few weeks to update my review for battery life

heat management

the heat management on this device is astounding. It’s cool to the touch with 30+ firefox tabs open and brightness up to full, with youtube and twitch playing and typing on visual studio. It does get warm to warm/hot when you change battery setting to best performance and start doing graphics intensive stuff like any kind of gaming, but when on recommended plan, the heat engineering of the device seems to be very effective. I have honestly never heard the fans at home with normal house noises

THE BAD

skipped the surface pro x for exactly this reason -> arm64

I didn’t do the obvious thing and go through all of my programs to figure out which ones can run on a sp11 so basically here’s my list of games/programs that will have issues/trouble/flat out won’t work on sp11:

  • discord*
  • runelite*
  • google drive
  • league of legends
  • destiny 2
  • the gpu in the SP11 sucks and has a hard time running games with heavy graphics

*runelite will run with no problems but the gpu/hd117 plugin will barely work unless you turn down all the settings

*discord alternative is armcord, which is discord on arm64, this runs fine

OVERALL

snapdragon cpu feels good for what I use it for. I like the surface line, I like the premium feel of the computer, it feels good to run my fingers over. It feels limited in terms of gpu but that’s the nature of the beast when you use tablets this thin I guess

with that in mind it feels really amazing to mess with this thin machine, same feeling in first few days like playing with my OG surface pro 3 on tablet mode in windows 8.1 lol simply magical

LET ME KNOW IF THIS HELPS
