There’s always the “the source material was better” argument, but what are some cases where an anime actually did get a bad adaptation. The show doesn’t even have to bad, just that it didn’t adapt the source material in a good way or perhaps ignored parts of it. My nomination is Spy Classroom. The first half of the first season tried to follow plot elements of the first novel too strictly and cover events too early which absolutely wrecked the pacing. Luckily, it got better and by season 2 was a pretty good show.
