To start with, there’s a few options to installing Epic. You can use Heroic, or Lutris, or NSL, but my fav of the bunch is easily Junk Store. After testing them all thoroughly, this one has ‘clicked’ the most for me, and I just love it. There’s no one right one, it’ll be a personal choice which one works best for you!

Junk Store is just a plugin which you grab from Decky Loader, and then install.

  • this guide is a ‘guide’ only in name. It almost feels disingenuous to ever call it a guide, because the process is dead-simple and requires nothing special.

But some people work well with pictures, with step-by-step guide to follow along to, and despite not being in hospital holding my Steam Deck, or about to give birth (holding my Steam Deck), I thought it would have a place here in this place regardless

- one thing to note is this will require you to have Decky Loader installed on your Steam Deck -

Step One:

Open Decky Loader and from the top section (next to the settings ‘cog’) you’ll see the cute little shop icon, go to that one and select it

Step Two:

Search ‘Junk Store’ in the search-bar, and when it appears, do the obvious and tap install

Step Three:

Once Decky has installed the plugin, open your Decky tab to find Junk Store in your list then tap on it. On mine, it is the top-most option, so that’s what I’ll select :)

Step Four:

This here is the Junk Store plugin! The first tab, Games is where you’ll find your library of games, later on after we have things set. The next option, About, is what you’ll go to first. So select ‘About’

Step Five:

You’ll find a few options listed on the side here, so you can take a moment to look through each (like ‘About’ to read all about the Junk Store plugin), but the second option called Dependencies is what we’ll want to go to here.

Select that, and then select the top-most tab called ‘Install Dependencies’ - this installs the bits and pieces your games will need in order to make them run, once they’re installed. This process is generally super quick, you’ll know its done when the tab once again reads “Install Dependencies” up the top. Sometimes though, the dependencies can hang, just be patient!

If you move down a little, you’ll see other options underneath it here. Install Proton Easy Anti Cheat is a good one to install. Games like Fall Guys will need this to run. I recommend you install that one, and BattlEye if you need.

After you’ve done this, you can exit it and restart your Steam Deck :)

Step Six:

After you’ve restarted the Deck, just open Decky Loader again, the open Junk Store and this time, instead of choosing About, choose Games. It’ll open this tab - which is where your Epic Games’ library of games you’ve claimed for free, or purchased, will fill out once you log in.

For now though, you (obv) need to log in. So select that tab on the right-hand side and you’ll be taken to the login screen for Epic.

Step Seven:

It will take you to the requisite sign-in spot, so fill it out and you’re done with this bit!

Step Eight:

Now you’ve signed in, when you open the Junk Store / Games tab, you’ll be brought to the library of the games you own. You can scroll through, read a description of the game, install…etc etc

Step Nine:

I just chose a game from my library, the process is again super self-explanatory but I’ll still share the photos here. So select a game, then select Install Game from there!

A progress bar will appear, and will let you know your progress and download

Step Ten:

The game will appear in your library, under the non Steam games section. Here I’ve got mine on the home screen, but one thing to note is I have used another Decky Loader plugin called SteamGridDB - to add custom art to it so it looks how I want :)

And the game plays perfectly! Controls in this case worked without any extra config needed, just all out of the box, it just…works

Further guide to the GOG extension:

Junk Store has a paid extension available too for your GOG library, as a once-off payment. The installation of which is super simple, but I’ll still leave a tiny step-by-step here so you can follow along if needed.

Step One:

Once you have the GOG extension, it’ll come in the form of a zipped folder. Just open Desktop Mode and unzip the folder to the following location:

  • /home /homebrew /data /Junk-Store

After you unzip here, there will be a warning about overwriting, and writing into, that folder. Just select yes to all of that and you’re done!

Step Two:

Again, follow the steps from the initial ‘Step Five’ and open ‘About’ then ‘Dependencies’ then install dependencies again. This is because GOG requires others, once you do this again, restart the Deck once it is finished doing so.

Step Three:

Again open Decky after the Deck has restarted, and then choose Games from Junk Store. This time you’ll have two tabs in your games section, one for EPIC and one for GOG!

The same steps apply here for signing in to your GOG acc, just open the GOG tab and log in. Then your library of GOG games will populate with all your redeemed and purchased games from there :)

And that’s it!

I’m no expert on Junk Store, but I’ve found I don’t need to be, I just install, browse my library and then install a game.

Hopefully this guide might help one or two people here who might want to try something new out!
