I’ve had my steamdeck for a little over 2 years. Mostly played emulators and simpler stuff on it. I’ve left the heavier stuff to being played exclusively on my desktop.

I’ve also been running just wifi on my desktop since I moved into my house in 2021. I always had the intention of running ethernet all through my house but didn’t until recently. I’m in the middle of some renovations and I have easy access to run ethernet right now. I have the network partially built and my desktop was one of the first devices I got up and running on it.

Using CAT6 and my 5 year old rental wifi router from my ISP I’m getting 60fps ultra video streams on games like cyberpunk 2077. Latency is imperceptible to me and it’s been a total gamechanger.

If you are at all thinking about running ethernet at all, and you have a steam deck with a desktop, it’s worth it.

I’m running ethernet to my television next and I will have a line for my steamdeck dock as well. Maybe my network will be able to stream higher res gameplay too.
