I know what the neo Pagan Armenian concept of death is, reincarnation and all that, but do we know what ancient Armenians believed happened after death before Christianity and the Church came to Armenia? I’m just curious because I know there’s Spandaramet - goddess of the underworld though there’s debate on what her role was regarding the afterlife, Aralez - spirits of death in dog form that can revive the dead like Ara the Handsome. What was our underworld called in Armenian? Did our underworld mimic the Greeks etc? I’m just curious if anyone knows, I’ve been reading up on Armenian mythology for fun but its hard to find a lot of this information, so was just wondering if anyone knew? The only thing that comes up is the Neo Pagan Armenian concept of death which I don’t think reflects what ancient Armenians believed, but I could be wrong.
