Thank You
Thank you to all of the volunteers doing the NHL & PWHL power rankings. Each ranker has their own system and have their own reasonings and analyis. It truly is a lot of work.

Visualization
The visualization contains historical data, so you can see how your team has done over time. Hopefully, we can run this for many years in hopes that we can see the rise and fall of teams by /r/hockey opinion.
It automatically updates so feel free to bookmark. You can find it here
Process
How does this work? Throughout the course of the week rankers are able to access an app that will allow them to rank teams. At the end of the period we calculate the average ranking for every team and collate all of the analysis provided by rankers.
The app then generates a post that is first proofread and then posted to /r/hockey!
Rankings
Ranking (avg) | Team | Delta | Overall Record | Record This Week | Comments |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 (1.66) | Winnipeg Jets | 1 | 5-0-0 | 2-0-0 | rasera says Jets start the season with a franchise best ever 5-0, and everyone seems to be riding the high. The Little retirement ceremony was fantastically done, and while I could nitpick certain players, it’s hard to be upset with the play right now. I’m just happy we’re doing well right now, because, depending who you ask, we’re apparently not even making playoffs this year. Despite being 4th in points league-wide last year, winning 2 defensive based awards for the regular season, and shedding older skaters for younger side-grades (at worst side-grades) in the off-season, it appears we’re destined to miss the playoffs. I hear Hagens is pretty good, but that’s also an NCAA kid. Not much luck with those types these days |
2 (2.71) | Dallas Stars | - | 5-1-0 | 2-1-0 | No Starts blurb this week, sorry. |
3 (3.8) | New York Rangers | 1 | 4-0-1 | 3-0-0 | nodessb says The Rangers had a flawless week, going 3/3 in their games and winning each game by three goals. The Panarin-Trocheck-Lafreniere line has been fantastic offensively to start, Igor’s looked like he wants nothing more than a 14x8, and the defense has been decent enough. Let’s hope they stay strong in the coming weeks. LGR! |
4 (6.49) | New Jersey Devils | -1 | 5-2-1 | 2-1-1 | silkeystev says A bit of a mixed bag this week, with two great games against Utah and Ottawa, and two subpar games against Carolina and Washington. All four teams are off to strong start, with Carolina the “weakest” at 0.500 but only 4 games played. The NHL thought it would be fun to make us play 8 games but the time a divisional rival has only played 4. It’s a weird time in the division. |
5 (7.71) | Florida Panthers | 4 | 4-2-1 | 3-0-1 | copaceticvindication says This team is fucking stacked. Barkov and Chucky both out already? Oh its fine, Sam “when I think of” Reinhart decided that regression is for fucking dorks and is even hotter than last year so far. Anton Lundell has also carried on last season’s momentum and is looking like Evil Barkov a little more every night. Hell, we’ve been so shorthanded we’ve been playing a dman Uvis balinskis at forward lmao. We haven’t been flawless but this team continues to show that it has historic levels of dog per 60. Oh I almost forgot. WE WON THE FUCKING STANLEY CUP HOLY SHIT WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TRY RELOCATING THIS BANNER WIFHDUDBSUSUSUDH |
6 (8.37) | Utah Hockey Club | -1 | 4-1-1 | 1-1-1 | oksoundtracks says After being lucky enough to attend Utah’s first ever loss and shutout (Proving I would have been a natural fan of the Coyotes), the Club bounced back with a tight loss against the Ducks and a thrilling overtime win against the Bruins. This team doesn’t quit, and I’m proud every game of the fight that our guys show. Keller is a natural captain and Guenther is earning every penny of his massive extension. Now if only we could score on the power play…or stop committing massive numbers of penalties… but nobody’s perfect. And Utah’s showing this team doesn’t need to be perfect, they’re beloved already. And that includes me. |
7 (8.37) | Calgary Flames | 3 | 4-0-1 | 1-0-1 | kellervo says A solid showing against Chicago, followed up by a close game going into OT against the Kraken. The scoring has dipped but the goalies are both still putting on a clinic, with the team leading the league with a .956 save percentage. There’s bound to be some regression but again, we’ll enjoy it while it lasts. |
8 (9.89) | Tampa Bay Lightning | 3 | 3-1-0 | 2-1-0 | keepitsteadyidiots says The even strength merchant Kucherov racked up another 5 points and seems on a mission to get 100 goals this season. This team is fast, got three solid line and looks strong 5 on 5. Moser is a stud. Special teams need some work. Raddysh is not a Stamkos replacement and should be banished from PP1. Geekie needs to show something soon or he will be in the AHL baking in the oven a bit longer. |
9 (10) | Toronto Maple Leafs | -2 | 3-2-0 | 1-1-0 | lang14 says Good win against L.A. – you do, in fact, lose in Toronto. Got goalie’d again! Only kind of expected when it’s Shesterkin. Get back at 'er on Monday and try and get two points against the Lightning. |
10 (11) | Vegas Golden Knights | -4 | 3-2-1 | 0-2-1 | anon_agentd05b says So this week sucked. Three straight losses, at least we got one loser point. The Washington game was just Hill being a sieve and LT playing for revenge. But both games in Florida the team had the lead and couldn’t hold onto it. Just not what you want to see out of the team if they’re going to be competitive. Plus, Olofsson is hurt could really damage the scoring depth. On the bright side Sammy has looked good in net so maybe he’ll get more starts and the fourth line looked great against the panthers, if the top line could’ve kept up and scored even one goal the Knights win that game. Well so far one good week and one bad week to start the season. There are obviously going to be growing pains with so much turnover hopefully the team can figure out the defense and start holding onto leads. Wild Bill we need you. |
11 (11.83) | Boston Bruins | -3 | 3-2-1 | 1-1-1 | maxpowr9 says A rough week for the Bruins. It’s exciting the our 4th line is the best in the League, but our top 6 has been rough. I don’t think it was warranted for Monty to single out Marchand during the Utah game (after the Florida game, it would have). Everyone knew it was a boneheaded turnover. Monty is right that the team is slow (miss DeBrusk) and taking a lot of bad penalties. Zaddy has not been great to start the season and hoping he improves as the season goes on. |
12 (12.63) | Minnesota Wild | 1 | 3-0-2 | 2-0-0 | No Wild blurb this week, sorry. |
