Hello everybody and, I know, I know what you’re all thinking right now. “Raiking, what is THIS!? Didn’t you already post this!?” And the answer is yes, I did… it’s just it turns out October was more packed than I thought so… I moved back this Rewatch by a few months. Nevertheless, feel free to pack your bentos for your crush, as it’s time to celebrate the 20th birthday of the romcom that spins round 'n round, School Rumble.

But of course, one may ask:

Uh… literally what is this show?

School Rumble is the tale of Tsukamoto Tenma, a young maiden who’s dumb as bricks and is dense as hell, but she has a mission: To win the heart of her beloved Karasuma Oji who… well I dunno what his good points are to be honest, but she sure is determined to catch his heart somehow. Still, she has some good friends backing her up, such as Suou Mikoto (The closest to a sane person in this whole damn school) and the almost eerily calm Takano Akira, which she will need given how her beloved Karasuma is transferring before the year ends. Truly this will be a love comedy for the ages.

… Wait, something seems wrong here. Hang on… huh, guess I have another script around here… well, here goes nothing?

School Rumble is the tale of Harima Kenji, a delinquent who is dumber than bricks and is dense as hell, but he has a mission: To win the heart of his beloved Tsukamoto Tenma who… well I dunno what her good points are to be honest, but he sure is determined to catch her heart somehow. Alas somewhere along the way he got himself involved with half-British rich girl Sawachika Eri and his beloved Tenma’s more popular little sister Yakumo which threw the mother of all wrenches into his life and also at some point he became a Mangaka. Truly this will be a love comedy for the ages.

Okay I’m already dizzy, mind putting it in simpler terms?

Based on the Manga by Kobayashi Jin and directed by Takamatsu Shinji, you do not watch School Rumble for any sort of drama. Everyone here is far too dumb to even consider the idea of being in a more serious show. The enjoyment factor, however, is quite high, with much of the humor deriving from our two protagonist’s respective storylines contrast each other, especially when they overlap. It’s a gag series through and through, but damn if it’s not a good one.

It helps that, if nothing else, the show knows how to present a joke without much effort. This isn’t the most visually impressive show out there, but Takamatsu knows how to do a lot with very little, which if nothing else gives the show a fairly breezy vibe. It’s a show that you sit down after a long day of work and laugh as everyone is completely incapable of achieving basic common sense.

Okay that was weird but where do I watch it anyway?

Yeah that’s gonna be tricky, huh?

Well great. When is it starting, anyway?

The Rewatch will begin in December 1st with the original series, and come the 27th and 28th, we’ll discuss the first two OVAs. After a Mid Series Discussion on the 29th, we’ll take a small break on the 30th and 31st for new years before resuming with Season 2 in January 1st. Then once again, in the 27th and 28th of that Month before one last discussion for everything come January 29th. Oh and all threads will be posted at 11pm UTC, can’t forget that bit.
