I got into the elevator with a young guy wearing shorts and a prosthetic leg. He was actually escorting people up and down the elevator and he had to get up off his chair to ride up with me.

I looked at his prosthetic and it had a foot type I’ve never seen before

I thought maybe he had several prosthetics for different purposes

So I asked him, “How many legs do you have?”

He kinda laughed nervously and said “Just one”

Then I thought he meant he just had one prosthetic. That kinda made me sad. To which I replied

“Hopefully as you get older you’ll get a bunch more”.

He was smiling but he seemed confused. I smiled back at him confidently , thinking I had made the world a little bit brighter.

I didn’t realize until I left the elevator what I’d done.
