I recently got a new job at a mechanics shop. I was interviewed by the VP of the company, and I applied online with my preferred name, but filled my legal papers with my legal name (I’ve been talking to lawyers about getting my name legally changed, but at the moment I’m really strapped for cash until I start this new job). He saw this and after this whole fiasco of me trying to communicate that I just go by my preferred name, but it’s not my legal name, my new manager was told my name is my deadname. I figured I could just tell them to call me my preferred name, but I’m worried they may ask questions as for why my name is definitely a woman’s name. Any suggestions on what I could say or do?
