I have noticed that some cars in GT7 have “ticking” rev counters. The needle doesn’t move continuously, but “ticks” over the tachometer disc in distinct large steps.

I assume that in real life these cars are actually like that, I am not claiming it is a bug in the game. I noticed it on some cars, notably the Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette. I remember I saw it it a few other cars, too, but I don’t remember which.

Here’s a video of GT7’s Super Silhouette where the ticking is well visible a few seconds after the start when the sun hits the rev counter:

So what’s the reason behind that? Continuously moving rev counters have been around for a very long time, so I see no technical reason for the ticking rev counters. I find it very off-putting when driving.

EDIT:

A chronometric tachometer - you learn something new every day, thanks guys!

From your comments I assembled the following list of cars in GT7 that have a chronometric tachometer:

  • Alpine A220 Race Car '68
  • Aston Martin DB3S '53
  • Ferrari 500 Mondial Pinninfarine Coupe '54
  • Jaguar D-Type '54
  • Jaguar XJ13 '66
  • Nissan Skyline Super Silhouette Group 5 '84
  • Porsche 917K '70

In case I’m missing a car, please let me know. Thanks!
