My boyfriend has a friend that is about 60 years old that owns a house that was built around the 1800s. The house is in the middle of nowhere, secluded from other homes for miles, it is the only house in the area surrounded by trees. And to add onto the uncomfortable environment the house does not have a street light since it was built in the 1800s.
My boyfriend was told by the lady that she would pay him to watch her house for 8 months. She was going to Mexico for the winter because she doesn’t like winter very much so she goes and stays with her friend. She said she would pay him double if he actually stayed in the house. He agreed because he didn’t really have much money to begin with and he had already worked for her so why not.
And I was excited because the lady also made a point that I could stay too. And I really was eager to get out of my parents house during the weekends (those were the only times I could stay over). My boyfriend started staying the night before me. And he would always come over to my house and tell me he is going crazy at the lady’s house because he feels ‘dread’ and like he is unwelcome. And I, knowing my boyfriend I thought this was one of his over reactions he does in certain situations he isn’t familiar with, so I told him I’m pretty sure it is fine. But I was so wrong.
The first weekend I stayed it was ok, I felt a bit ‘off’, but my boyfriend insisted we check the whole house top to bottom because he felt as though someone was in the house, I didn’t think so but I said ‘ok’. So we started checking the house and we checked every room top to bottom, even the basement that had was more like a dungeon. And there was nothing. So I told him that there was nothing let’s go to bed. So we went into the bedroom and he locked the door and put his knife under his pillow. I didn’t ask why, and just went to bed. The next day we packed and went to town to get some groceries for during the week so he didn’t have to pay for Wendy’s for lunch during his shift.
We made it back to the house and it was almost pitch black darkness. So we went around to the back and opened the back door, stepped in the house, closed the door and walked a few inches away from the door and the door knob started turning as if someone was turning it from the outside. But there was no one there. So we bolted out of the house and we had gone to his parent’s house to explain the situation. And his mom gave us silver necklaces.
But yes unfortunately we returned a few days later and this time it was worse. We had arrived when it was dark and my boyfriend quickly ran to the back and unlocked the door so he could open up the front sliding door. I had grabbed my stuff and realized I forgot my phone, so I walked back out the sliding door and it smelled like rotten eggs, and it wasn’t the septic or anything rotten. My boyfriend even came to see what I was concerned about and smelled it. I retrieved my phone, went back inside and I went to the bathroom. And I heard something fall from in the kitchen, I ran out after I used the restroom and I asked my boyfriend what happened he said things started falling off the wall in the kitchen, the lady had a few bird sculptures on the wall and a couple broke. We fixed them but it was unfortunate. We then slept in the truck after that.
Next week we came back to the house, and it was 85 degrees in the house, when usually we’d have to wear coats, because the lady likes it somewhat cold, and it also saves electricity. We for sure know we didn’t do it and the lady’s other friend hadn’t been to the house that week and also she would never touch the thermostat ever, so we were confused. Then we found that all of the doors were closed. It’s not odd for the doors being closed per se because the lady liked the doors closed, BUT, except one during the winter, the laundry and pantry room. Because her pipes would freeze if we didn’t keep the door open. But it was closed and no one had been there. And we didn’t close it.
The next day my boyfriend was changing his oil and I had to use the restroom. The door knob started turning and I thought it was my boyfriend but no he was outside. Then when i opened the door the basement started creaking open. Yes the basement does have wind drafts. But hear me out, the whole house except for kitchen has thick carpet, so it would be impossible for the door to creep open against the carpet with small air flow.
The following week we felt as if we were more in danger than previously, we got so uncomfortable that we had to stop going there, and my boyfriend the previous weeks had already stopped staying there alone after the first incident of the door knob turning. It was nearly impossible to stay there even when we constantly came back, but we wanted to watch her house, and it wasn’t just for money but for the lady.
But we actually heard that the lady had an experience where she woke up for work early in the morning, it was dark, she went out to start her car, she was in her car when she heard something knocking on her car window. She went out and looked, but found no one. May I remind you her house is in the middle of nowhere miles away from other homes, so why and how would anyone be knocking on her car window in pitch darkness in the very early morning? She doesn’t believe in paranormal but has had experiences.
I know this text is rushed but I just wanted to share from my memories of experiences at the most haunted house I have ever stayed at, ever.
