Hello r/CFB! Welcome to the 2024 Big XII Uniform Tracker in Week 10!  Well, we can’t win them all. Unless you’re BYU, evidently! Another wild week we get to take a look at in the Big 12. In case you are unfamiliar with how my tracker works, I catalog every Big 12 team’s uniform combination week-to-week, and also look at the opposition’s threads. I provide a few of my thoughts on the game, the uniforms, and a brief history of the game/rivalry and/or fun facts. Feel free to also check out each team’s gallery for the 2024 season, linked down below. Let’s get into these incredible suits!

I’m u/matte_purple, and let’s 3,2,1 go!

University of Arizona Wildcats vs University of Central Florida Knights (UCF Wins, 56-12)

UCF: Black/Black/Gray (Link: )

Arizona: White/White/Blue (Link: )

Arizona faced many challenges in this matchup. One, it was the longest road trip the Wildcats took this season, as Orlando is more than 1,780 miles away. Two, UCF scheduled their annual Space Game against ‘Zona. The Knights were undefeated in all 7 previous Space Games. Three, a win would keep the Knights firmly in the race for bowl eligibility after going on a 5 game losing streak. And boy did UCF deliver in this one, clobbering the Wildcats in a 600 yds of total offense game. It’s the highest yardage Arizona’s defense has allowed since it gave up 621 to USC in 2022. Eight of UCF’s 10 drives resulted in touchdowns. A full recap of this wild game would be exhaustive, so I’ll be short: Arizona’s injury-riddled defense simply could not stand up to the Knight’s ground and air assault. Arizona is now one loss away from officially missing a bowl appearance. They face an emboldened Houston team, a TCU team in need of 1 more win for a bowl berth, and in-state rival Arizona State to close the season.

What better way to start off this week’s tracker than talking about one of the Big 12’s BEST uniform traditions? As much as I would love to go into UCF’s rich space history, I’ll leave that to the pros: Here is more info on why UCF has a Space Game! The Space Game uniforms have always looked fantastic, and while I originally thought these were rather plain compared to some previous suits, I got to dig in and have drastically changed my onion: these are artful in their meanings and Easter eggs. The most notable piece here is the “lunar dust” gradient pattern, which is not only a reference to Mission VIII’s (the 2024 edition) theme of “Return to the Moon,” but also pays homage to UCF’s Exolith lab, the world’s largest simulated lunar surface. The state-of-the-art facility allows space companies, faculty and students to test how moon dust interacts with hardware that powers space missions. The collar features the old school Citronaut logo. The helmets utilize a UCF stack logo with slight Canaveral Blue accents, and lunar dust speckles on a black shell. The back bumper, also Canaveral Blue, displays the university’s motto, “Reach for the Stars.” The jersey cuffs exhibit Orion and Pegasus: constellations. Pegasus is UCF’s academic symbol. Orion is the name of the road around FBC Mortgage Stadium. The grayish pants mimic the color of a space shuttle AND seamlessly uses the aforementioned gradient color. These are a far cry from last year’s much brighter Space Game suits, utilizing more black and an unconventional uniform detail. These are bursting with fun details and that little extra kick of rich blue that UCF fans and uniform nerds like me crave. Bravo once again, SpaceU.

Arizona has worn all white in every away game except for one. Normally, I would be searching for a bit more spice in their choices, but I can’t fault it here. Think about it, the navy would have melded with the black UCF suits too much, and red has been worn A LOT by the Wildcats thus far. Plus, I can’t seem to find anyone who doesn’t like the all-whites ‘Zona wears. The bold dual colored stripes add such a unique but straightforward presence that catches the eye. Though they have a subpar record in the all-whites this year (2-2), it’s better than their record in them since 2021, a rougher 5-9. Regardless of their record, these are one of my favorite standard looks from Arizona!

Texas Tech University Red Raiders at Iowa State University Cyclones (TTU Wins, 23-22)

TTU: White/White/Black (Link: )

ISU: Red/Red/White (Link: )

The Red Raiders struck hard this past Saturday. They prevented Iowa State from reaching a 8-0 start for the first time in school HISTORY on ISU’s homecoming, reached bowl eligibility, and broke a losing streak against a very tough opponent! TTU started hot, finding a wide open Josh Kelly for a 35 yd TD. In fact, Tech led for most of the fourth quarter, but a 44-yd touchdown pass from Rocco Becht to WR Carson Brown with two minutes to go put the Cyclones ahead. The Red Raider’s weren’t going to let it go so easily. A 12-play, 71-yd drive ended with RB Tahj Brooks scoring with 20 seconds left to clinch the upset. Brooks has rushed for 100+ yards in every single game this season, and won after dropping consecutive games to Baylor and TCU. It was the highest-ranked win for the Red Raiders since a 2012 against No. 5 West Virginia. The Cyclones were neck and neck with BYU, controlling their own destiny for the Big 12 championship and playoff, but now seem a little more mortal. They’ll try to rebound vs KU in Kansas City.

Ah, the ol White/White/Black look for Texas Tech! I am rather surprised at how little these have been worn in recent years, only the third time since 2022. Two of those occasions were this year, as they also showed up against Arizona. I share the same thoughts as I did then. The cleaner lines of the 2024 suits instantly improves this over the 2020 set, the black font of the away jersey pairs with the pants for a great flow AND that intangible “outlaw” quality that really pops. The lettering color is reminiscent of the Mike Leach era at Texas Tech, which makes the look even sweeter (Swing your Sword!). The numbers themselves are also higher up than the current Nike template, which automatically makes them step up a notch. And maybe these have a little bit of upset mojo now?

Iowa State wore their classic for homecoming, pairing red tops and helmets with white pants. This is the 5th time we’ve seen this suit through 2022, and the 3rd time this season. It’s definitely their “workhorse look.” For those uninitiated, a “workhorse” look is one that may not be the coolest/best look in the closet, but is often a go-to look because it’s the classic. Iowa State’s refresh has really grown on me when you start to look at all the details of it, especially the striped shoulders and updated font. I am still waiting to see the arrival of the gold pants! Maybe they’ll be worn against KU?

Arizona State University Sun Devils vs Oklahoma State Cowboys (ASU Wins, 42-21)

OK-State: Black/Black/Black (Link: )

ASU: Maroon/White/Maroon (Link: )

Oklahoma State has an incredible homecoming tradition, and the spectacle is DIFFERENT in Stillwater. The 103rd edition of “America’s Greatest Homecoming” saw students, alumni, and friends of OSU flood Boone Pickens Stadium. OSU had won 13/16 previous homecoming games. The Sun Devils had different plans. ASU prevented OSU’s 14th homecoming win in 16 games and continued OK-State’s Big 12 losing streak, HC Mike Gundy’s worst outing since he started at OSU (4-7 in 2005). Sun Devil RB Cam Skattebo rushed for 153 yds and a TD and caught 4 passes for 121 yds, taking 2 of those passes in for TDs. ASU had 529 total yds, and Skattebo continues to wow - he’s the first Sun Devil since 2015 to have more than 100 yds receiving AND rushing in one game. Arizona State capitalized off of a big rain delay at halftime to turn a normally magical homecoming game into mud. Can the Pokes recover against TCU, Texas Tech, and Colorado? They need to win all 3 for a bowl!

Oklahoma State threw it back to a look reminiscent of a time before Pistol Pete took his place as mascot of the university. The Pokes wore an alternate helmet with Oklahoma A&M’s primary logo, the OA emblem from 1909, back when they were known as the Tigers. OAMC branded itself as “Princeton of the Prairie” starting 9 years after its founding in 1890, and took its mascot and colors from that prestigious New Jersey Institution. Paying homage to the team’s 125th season, the whole look was touted as a “throwback,” but it’s really more of a faux-back than anything else. Which is totally fine! OK-State started their tradition of throwback helmets on Homecoming a decade ago, wearing a white shell with the old Bucking Bronco logo in 2014 vs WVU. They wore an entirely new 1988 alternate in 2018, but it was a lone exception to the trend. In fact, OSU paired their suits with MORE throwback suit details than normal, adding in striped socks and sleeves to mimic the 1909 football team threads. As for the helmet…
