I’m nearly 40 and recently picked up my first ever fixed gear bike and have been on a couple of urban rides. Just now I took it to some trails/gravel and it was such stupid, underbiking bliss. The riding style and the amount of upwards force applied on the straps in various maneuvers was so bizarre to me. Simple things like lifting the front over obstacles and sharp breaking are so awkwardly difficult at the moment. No freewheel bzzzzzzzzz, just the sound of small stones under tire. It was singlehandedly one of the most peaceful and at the same time chaotic experiences I’ve had on a bike.

PS is it normal to only manage to lock the wheels up on one of my sides at the moment? Left foot back, right foot forward?

PPS did anyone else notice a kind of motion sickness, strange feeling in the legs after they first started riding a fixed gear. It’s almost like when you spend the day on a boat and then later on when you’re back on land you still feel like you’re balancing/rocking.
