Respectfully, I disagree. People are well meaning when they say this, it’s supposed to be a comfort sentence to say “it’s okay, we are all weird”. But I found it more and more grating later on, because not everyone has to deal with a well tamed condition. To my ears I hear “suck it up, everyone has it just as tough as you.” Well I don’t think everyone has the same neurological disabilities I do. I’ve always described autism to be feeling like “I’m babysitting myself”.
