I’ve never known any other autistic people personally to ask this, but what is your experience when driving?
I know some people can be petrol heads and love cars and the feeling of driving - so I wondered how differently everyone here is affected by driving.
My shit experience of being given controls to a battering ram*:
I tried to learn to drive for a bit but started to get really anxious the more I drove (Partly because maybe I was overconfident in a car park early on? who knows). I started to over think everything and couldn’t relax. I would almost dissociate because I was experiencing so much at once.
It’s like walking down the street, and every person you pass you think about what they’re thinking about so you can predict what they’re going to do; but it’s happening at 70kph. And they’re in big metal boxes full of fuel that can kill you if your own big metal box doesn’t.
PSA: I don’t hate cars or petrol heads, I just know that I absolutely should not be allowed to drive
