For the record, I’ve never been a “trender” or “tucute” or any of that stuff. I’ve always been pretty confident in my gender identity and opposed the idea that gender is just some frivolous thing that anyone can choose and doesn’t matter. At the same time, I looked at the Truscum community as something overly-negative. Surely they’re overreacting to a relatively insignificant problem? Surely they’re being overly critical of small details about people? The longer I think about it though, and the more openly trans people I meet, the more I start to feel like for every one normal trans person I meet, there are 4 emo kids who think showering is a transphobic conspiracy or bald fatsos with pink hair who have to remind everyone they’re a lesbian at every opportunity.

Still though, my outlook on the wider trans community has been growing pretty negative lately, and I can’t help but notice I find this sub a lot more honest and validating than any mainstream ones. There are some commonly-held beliefs in here I don’t really understand or like, for example I know there are a lot of nonbinary trenders but I don’t really see how that makes it not a valid gender identity, and I don’t understand why a lot of people seem to think you can’t be GNC and trans at the same time for whatever reason, but I definitely prefer it to the mainstream community where it feels like every other thing I hear or read is some sort of secret transphobic dogwhistle.
