Hi folks,First off, huge thanks for all the feedback on our previous post here! Your insights and suggestions were incredibly valuable, including the note about potential naming conflicts with existing projects. We took that feedback to heart. We have rebranded Terminus to Olares (from “O” + “Lares”, the Roman guardian deities of the home).

GitHub repo: (Give us a star if you like it!)

For those who missed our previous post, we’re building a platform that makes self-hosting more approachable without compromising on privacy or flexibility. We position it as an open-source, self-hosted alternative to public clouds.

The rebranding has been comprehensively implemented across our ecosystem includes our GitHub repositories, with the majority of updates completed in Release 1.10. Here’s a quick wrap-up of what’s changing:

  • Terminus → Olares
  • Terminus Name → Olares ID (decentralized identity)
  • TermiPass → LarePass (client software)

Go check our rebranding blog for more details.

In case you missed it, below are some highlights from our recent releases in the last few months (from 1.8 to 1.10 - we’ve been working really hard! )

  • Simplified identity creation: Previously, Verifiable credential (VC) via Google OAuth is required to create an Olares ID. Now it’s an optional process. You can create an ID using LarePass in seconds.
  • More AI applications in the market: You can download an expanded selection of AI applications within a few clicks, and create AI art using SD, ComfyUI, or run local LLM like Gemma2 in Olares. No more complexed configurations.
  • Cloud drive integration support: You can sync and manage your files from Google Drive, Dropbox, and S3 directly in Olares.

We’ve also refactored our documentation recently, feel free to check the quick-started guide to give it a try!
