Okay, so I’ve seen roughly a half dozen posts just today that are not orbs, not anomalous, not anything other than airplanes in holding patterns waiting to land. I get it… I live 5-10 miles or so from a major airport, and sometimes it looks weird. Airplanes can be REALLY bright – in some cases, their landing lights can be seen from >100 miles away, and when they turn and dim… yeah, it looks weird. But it isn’t. Its totally normal.
the best thing we can do is keep ourselves informed and better able to discern actual anomalies from routine events. One of the tools I use is a flight data tracker to map aircraft transponder data. It shows real-time locations of aircraft, and some software uses augmented reality to actually show whether the dot you’re seeing in the night sky is a known aircraft or not. These programs typically have comprehensive free-tier features, including the ability to review data over the past week.
I use flightradar24. It’s available on iOS & Android. There are plenty of other great options as well.
