I spend a lot of time jotting down notes and constantly referencing them while working. This usually resulted in clicking through growing piles of disorganized TextEdit windows. I really wanted a keyboard-first stickies app that could be used instantly from any other app. Which is why I created Floaters.
At its simplest, Floaters is a notes app that you can activate, control, and hide via keyboard while in any app. It’s well suited for temporary (scratchpad) notes, as well as permanent (saved) notes. It lets you organize & group floaters to avoid window overload.
But there ended up being many more things worth repeatedly accessing while working. So Floaters grew into more of a productivity dashboard.
It’s currently free during the beta period and already has a rich set of features:
- Advanced window management & placement capabilities
- Tags for searching and grouping notes
- Web floaters for accessing specific webpages via keyboard shortcuts
- Local file & folder links
- Inline Images and “picture mode”
- In-app & global keyboard shortcuts for accessing specific notes/tags/groups
- Task lists and consolidated totals
- Customizability for pretty much everything
- Keyboard control for pretty much everything
- Copy to markdown
If you have a chance to check it out, I’d love to hear any feedback. Thanks!
