In all seriousness, a travesty for NZ R&D to lose Callaghan Innovation. The news is four days old but it seems to have been swept up in a shallow press release and lacked any real discourse. Where does this govt think growth will materialise from. In my limited exposure to pure science, I’ve found they are already incredibly undervalued. It was already so grim for post grads that it didn’t occur to me we could take it lower as a country. If you’ve got PhD students begging for shit $60k jobs then what does that tell you about our direction. So too, professors with so much on their plate they’re constantly emailing at 3am. Where’s the fat, what is so terrible about our RoI in science. I can’t see the sense
