Years ago when I was working as an electrical technician for an engineering firm, one of the phd engineers told me “networking sucks, I wouldn’t get into it.” I didn’t ask him for details and it was more of a comment than a discussion. I’ve met a ton of smart people in my life and I think that without a doubt he was the smartest I ever met, so the comment has stuck.
Now after working as an sysadmin and junior dev I understand what he meant. It seems like 90% of the rabbit holes I go down are either purely network related or have a networking aspect to them.
Is it always like this? Does it get better? To be fair I’m mostly self taught and have the basics that come with a cs degree but was wondering if something like Comptia certification would be a good route to help? I noticed most other devs suck at networking too but we have some senior SA’s who always seem to know what the issue is.
