After my father joined the church as a teenager, me asked my grandmother to read the Book of Mormon. Grandma, wanting to support her son and better understand this church better known for polygamy and non-biblical holy books, began to read.
She made it four chapters, all the way to the part in 1 Nephi chapter 4 where Nephi, the good guy, murders Laban with his own sword, strips the victim’s corpse of (apparently relatively bloodless) clothing, and essentially kidnaps the victim’s employee. At that point, she told my dad his church wasn’t for her.
Grandma, you are a lot smarter than I am.
