So last week I got a request to review the purchase of an appliance. Looked it over and it seemed normal. Approved the purchase and left it at that.
Guy came back asking what power of microwave he should buy. Told him to just buy something similar to the one they were getting rid of. Didn’t like that, wanted something specific. Told him I couldn’t give him a specific answer. I’m not an electrician, i just make sure our expenditures are justified. He liked that even less and sent an email to every manager in both his and my departments asking why our department existed if we won’t provide guidance on stuff like this.
Cut to today, my manager calls me and says I’m not allowed to send any emails to anybody not on my team without management approval.
Most of my emails are single sentence “yes, you can do that. Just be wary of (insert concern here).” Or “Don’t do that, it’s not in line with company policy.”
So far today I’ve sent 22 requests for approval for emails with less than a sentence. And i figure i can get that to about 40. Enjoy the extra work.
