I get FOSS apps from Github/fossdroid (obtanium) and non-FOSS from Aurora.

I thought this was the best approach but read an article that said for privacy and security, Play or Github were the preferred sources. Play was favoured over Aurora because of Aurora’s anonymous accounts - even though it required a sign-in. Fdroid/Droidify werent mentioned.

Unfortunately I cant find the original article, sorry.

Theres no perfect way of doing it but which is the most secure/private?
