For years I always seen the running gag where people said (paraphrasing) “streaming services costs as much as cable now” but I really didn’t pay it any mind. Up until a few months ago I was paying for Paramount, Peacock, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+/Hulu & received HBO through AT&T. So roughly about $75/$85 a month.

Here’s where my realization began ;

When I went to get a new iPhone AT&T informed me they were going to start charging me 20.99 for HBO by way of my phone bill so I supposedly wouldn’t notice it, red flag #1.

I read an email from Peacock saying that they of all services were raising their prices starting at 10.99, red flag #2. Besides Hulu I think Peacock has the best UI but 10.99??? with commercials??? That app is a not worth it. I went to cancel & they offered me 6 months for 2.99 which is basically what I got last year around black friday. I’ll settle for that (for now) and look for another black friday deal with a different email in 2 months time.

Paramount although paired with Showtime is the most buggy & unstable of them all increased from 10.99 to 11.99, INSANITY. Canceled that immediately. Their catalogue save a few new recent series isn’t worth the price. I only kept it for as long as I did because episodes play all night without stopping while I slept.

I’ve had a hate-hate relationship for a very long time. They introduced locking movies behind paywalls which is insanity!!! Their catalogue is subpar and their original programming doesn’t last that long with all those cancellations. I paused my membership but will ultimately cancel. Haven’t been a fan for years.

Disney+ started out nostalgia based and I outgrew that within the first year of its release. If they they didn’t bundle their subscription with Hulu then I wouldve cancelled it a very long time ago. They gave me a black friday deal last year for 12 months at 2.99 I think so i’m not too mad at them. Honestly I enjoyed Shogun, Alien Earth, Andor & some other shows so Disney can get some grace from me.

Prime Video is whatever. If it wasn’t for Amazon I wouldn’t even use it. Rings of Power is every 2 years & Wheel of Time has been cancelled so that app is so so for me. Plus their UI is garbage & timely to navigate. I cancelled & will restart some time next year.

I haven’t had cable in about 5 years & I thought having all these streaming apps was a good alternative but over the years they’ve shown they’re just as money hungry.

I’m not even going to get started on that ESPN/WWE $30 a month malarkey they introduced not too long ago.
