The largest stove-top element on my stove is 7.5 inches. I’m interested in a circular dutch oven which appears has a base of 10.2 inches. I want to use this for slow-cooking mostly stews soups and meat-based chilis.
Will I still be able to cook everything properly even if the base of the pot is that much larger than the stovetop element?
It should be fine. My dutch oven spans two burners to keep a good simmer, but it’s kind of on the edge of both flames. I think the thickness of the cast iron will help keep the heat distributed, but of course, some stirring will be warranted.
