My (33M) wife (33F) wife is the supreme nerd. PhD in Chemistry, history buff, math whiz, trilingual, quotes LoTR and Marvel…the works. She’s beautiful and kind and good at a lot of things, but she is not really “sexy” per se. In the traditional understanding of the word at least. I’m intensely attracted to her and she is, to me, easily the most breathtaking woman in any room, but sexy isn’t really the world that comes to mind. She’s incredibly awkward and that showed tonight when she tried to do this dance routine that she got off of YouTube, I think. We haven’t really been having sex because we have 8 month old twins that are just starting to sleep through the night and our other kids are 5 and 3. I am tired by the time I get to bed and legitimately just want to go to sleep.

I was in the office downstairs. She came downstairs in minimal clothing and the one pair of heels that she owns, brought her phone/bluetooth speaker, played “Body Party” and started doing this absolutely ridiculous dance routine. I was smiling because I appreciate where it was coming from, but she tried to go down and fell and that’s where my reaction went from “aw this is cute” to uncontrollable laughter. Idk wtf is wrong with me but she was not amused and quickly left to the living room. I told her I wasn’t laughing at her but the move she tried to do in those heels was just never going to go well, and asked her if she was okay. She said “well, my husband laughed at me when I tried to do something nice for him so no I’m definitively not okay.” I told her “sexy” isn’t really her thing and that’s okay. Realized immediately that that was not the right thing to say because she looked shattered. Said she was going to bed.

I feel like a good and proper asshole with no idea how to make up for it. Because no matter what she can’t unheard that but I don’t think I expressed my meaning very well.
