[The following is relevant to Goku vs. Superman, Twilight Sparkle Vs. Raven, and honestly half the deathbattles that are made nowadays]

I’m fine with different universes having different laws of physics, it usually makes them better, in fact. It’s fiction, after all. And if a universe uses our laws, using our laws to analyze makes perfect sense. But if a universe shows something that violates one of our laws, we can’t use that specific law to analyze it accurately anymore.

Let’s have an example:

If “There is no gravity in this universe” then we can’t use apply our laws of gravity when determining how fast something moves towards the ground when dropped, right?

How about this? “Superman can fly faster than the speed of light, and weighs 225 pounds, so with F=MA, him hitting into a planet would [draws conclusion]”. There is no conclusion to draw. The speed of light being a cosmic speed limit is intrinsically linked to our entire understanding of physics. Consider something as simple as superman weighing 225 pounds. Weight is intrinsically determined by gravity, which is inextricably determined by mass, which is fundamentally defined by E=mc2, where “c” is the cosmic speed limit. Throw out “c” and everything that directly depends on it has to be thrown out with it. Which turns out to be practically every law of physics imaginable.

At this point, we can’t use our physics to draw more conclusions, when this universe explicitly defies all of those laws. We can only take what’s directly stated (like Superman weighing 225 pounds) and leave it at that. Any further extrapolation is like trying to smell colors, it just doesn’t work.

For another example of this, Death Battle used Raven’s shadow form pushing things to assume it has mass (as if telekinesis wasn’t something Raven does all the time), combined it with its movement speed, and finally used our calculations of F=MA to determine it’s collision force. Which is kinda silly when Raven and her powers can’t be defined by our versions of M or A. Her pushing force should be measured by her pushing force. Crazy idea, right? And if that pony still get squished, that’s fine, I just want them to be consistent.

What’s the point of this post? I don’t know. I just wanted to rant about physics and Death Battle, I guess.
