i (m 38) recently travelled to south east asia for an extended vacation. While there, i saw that there was a group of 5 hot australian girls (late 20s) who lived in a hostel right across from me who were big into surfing.

I had surfer when i was younger but had not in about 15 years. I went up to them one day and asked if i can go out surfing with them to practice and get any tips.

They were more than happy to help me out and gave me some good tips. I surfed everyday for about a week and i felt like i was getting the hang of it.

Now i had been wearing a wetsuit while surfing but i did not like the way i looked in it. So after a week i switched to a pair of shorts.

I wanted to show off to the girls and look a bit cooler while doing it, so i told them to film me this time. The girls told me to take it easy but i was feeling cocky and said “watch me girls, im actually pretty good, just was rusty”

So with the girls watching, one of them with the go pro out…i went for this wave…things started off well but the wave was a bit bigger than expected…and the waves took me off my board pushing me awkwardly into the water.

Now i had underestimated the current, and as i fell in i could feel my shorts slide off…i tried to pull them back up but the current just whisked them off my legs and i saw them sink to the bottom. I quickly grabbed my board and just stayed there panicking…the girls were also on their boards and asked if i was ok…i said yes but didnt know what to do.

A couple of them paddled over and in my head i was willing them not to…

As they approached me they saw i had lost my shorts and they just died laughing.

i wanted the earth to swallow me…they said we should paddle back to the shore and i can get a new pair of shorts…but after i came back i was done surfing for the day.

After the incident each of this had this grin while talking to me, it was as if they were all trying not to laugh in front of me. They also seemed a lot more comfortable and relaxed when talking to me compared to before the incident.

I told them to delete the footage and to not tell anyone about this. They told me not to worry.

The girls said we should all get a group photo tomorrow. But i am feeling a bit low on confidence lol. Any thoughts reddit? Any tips on how i can turn this around? I am a single guy haha
