I’m trying to get a NAS. I don’t know yet if it will be a Synology or a TrueNAS running on a computer that I have collecting dust. The biggest point of conflict right now is at the software space. If I had a good photo and file management I don’t mind going with either and maybe I would prefer the TrueNAS route as I already have the computer. The big question for me is, I don’t want to rely on single person projects on GitHub because I’ll be storying my memories on that software so it really should work well, that’s why I thought on using NextCloud. Strange enough every mention that I see on the self host reddit channel is to go to Immich, ProtoPrism, or Synology, there is little to no mention to NextCloud. There is anything that I should be aware of? At the moment I have something like 4TB of photos and videos of my family that I really want to migrate off cloud services.
