I just wanted to write here as people begin looking for apartments for next year.
I toured a seemingly nice property with various amenities a few months before signing a lease. In the tour, we went to the basement and found tons of debris and old items, making a perfect nesting ground for small animals. I asked the showing agent if they could have it cleaned out, as I didn’t want to worry about pests, and she assured me it would be cleaned out for us. We signed the lease under the assumption it would be cleaned.
A few weeks go by and nobody comes by so an email is sent asking when the basement would be cleaned, as their showing agent told us definitively it would be taken care of. Westin asks me if I ever got a written agreement from them saying they would do it, which I hadn’t. They said because there was no written agreement, they wouldn’t be doing anything and that the basement wasn’t a living space.
Fast forward to now, we’ve been dealing with mice issues FOR MONTHS. MONTHS. Not just in the kitchen, but also in the living room, bedrooms, bathrooms. Everywhere. They say pest control will come and they don’t always show but when they do, they say our management needs to pay more for bigger services than just putting down some traps. We maintain a clean house and don’t have food lying around anywhere.
We’ve had various other issues too of not having maintenance come for months when we needed them, like when a washer was improperly installed which caused water to leak onto the power cord of the dryer and it stopped working.
I don’t care how nice one of their properties look, do not rent from them.
