I am a freshman computer science major and going from high school to college is really kicking me down. As someone who had an A+ average in high school, now I’m failing in all except 1 class. For math, we were told that everything we go over would be topics that were gone over in pre-cal but everything is mostly new, and I’m struggling to understand the topics. I have attempted to go to tutoring (ALAC) and I was completely ignored. I’ve gone to YouTube videos from 9 years ago to just get a general understanding of the topic. CS1 is one I’m truly having an issue with. I in all honesty can’t learn from the teacher, I’m not sure if it’s me not being able to learn or if it’s the teacher’s style but it’s hard. I’ve gone to watch the videos from COVID-19 in order to get some sort of understanding. for the hw and labs, it’s even harder. For me, I can’t understand what the hw wants me to do, I feel like it’s way too vague and I need something that’s very clear or some sort of steps in order to do it. As someone who learns from doing practices in order to get the concept and understand what something is, I feel like I’m being told the basics and then thrown into the deep end. For the past month, I’ve been at ALAC almost every day for help, and is still failing.
I do know that there are office hours but most of my classes’ office hours are when I have class, I know of Webex (believe is called) but I don’t understand how to use it. In all honesty, I feel like I might be hitting the end here.
