The landing page on GitHub needs more dumbing down honestly.
- Explain the tabs on the top or the burger bar are the way to find ROMs and not the search bar. Every noob searches ‘Pokémon’ and if it ain’t in the popular tab, they give up.
- Put stuff about download managers up front because people constantly complain about bad download speeds
- a tab for ‘bios’ and ‘romsets/translations’. Misc just confuses people and also the landing page says those are in ‘Retro’ and they aren’t
- a link to the Emulation General Wiki for emulator info. People constantly ask what emu to use for which system or device
And then like maybe an explanation at the top of each company page that explains the different file types. ‘CIA’ is for a hacked 3ds while .3DS works on emulators, shit like that. People always are like ‘There’s NKit, Ciso, wbfs and rvz. Which one do I use?’ It feels like a simple table at the top would be good. Maybe explain encrypted and decrypted files.
And the last absolute noob question is ‘how do I convert a .zip file to (insert rom format)’ which should probably be addressed somewhere, maybe the landing page.
This obv wouldn’t stop idiotic questions but it might help a bit. Idk. Maybe it’s a fools errand.
