Currently I’m just using the default Home Assistant app geolocation based solution, which I find works relatively quick on our phones but it can occasionally pick me up when I drive past on the adjacent road, or take a while to change sometimes.

I’m ideally looking for a way to have our home/away status update fairly instantaneously, in a way I can use it to reliably and securely unlock my smart lock as I get home.

My idea for that is to have a motion sensor next to the door and when that’s triggered, if my geolocation has changed from Away to Home in the last minute, or I connected to the WiFi in the last minute, to unlock the door. But I could see that rarely having false positives?

How is everyone else doing it?
