I want to keep this kind of vague, both because I don’t want any identifying info on Reddit and this happened a couple hours ago and the wound is very fresh. It stings real bad!

I work in a bar and have for the past ~15 months, give or take, and I love my job there (warts and all, I’m extremely grateful for it). We host 2 kinds of events, one kind runs until midnight, and the other until the early hours. We also offer a free service to people who have what is basically our equivalent of a membership. For the ENTIRE TIME that I have worked here, I had ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA that we do not offer this free service during the latter type of event. AND I’VE BEEN GIVING IT OUT FOR FREE THE ENTIRE TIME I’VE WORKED THERE. I am absolutely mortified, and even though I know I shouldn’t feel bad for costing a large corporation a small fraction of its earnings, I still feel absolutely terrible because of how nice my managers are. I feel like I’ve messed up big time, lol. My boss decided to finally inform me about this rule at the end of my shift tonight, I think everyone just assumed that I was aware. Luckily we only have these events once or twice a month so hopefully I haven’t impacted profits too much haha… This will keep me awake for many nights to come.

TL;DR: I’ve been doing my bar job for over a year and I didn’t know that during one of our particular kinds of events, we don’t provide a free offer that we usually do. So I’ve been giving it out for free the whole time I’ve worked there and I’m absolutely mortified! Yay!
