This encounter happened in Nyeri Kenya in the mid 2000s. I accompanied my dad to visit his mom (cucu) one weekday. It was just the two of us on a brief road trip from Nairobi to Nyeri. That morning I had taken some Piriton for a cold I was developing. I ended up sleeping the whole way. We arrived safely and spent the day with my cucu and some cousins who were there. My cucu spent the night in her room and my dad in his. I ended up in the same room as my cousins, no big deal.

In the middle of the night I was woken up by some strange rustling noises. Like a large animal digging up something outside our room. What was weird was that there was light everywhere, it seemed like it was surrounding the whole house. Like someone had lit up a powerful torch. I was too afraid to go outside and check it out maybe it could have been robbers but then again why would they be needing all that light? What was more puzzling was that right next to our room, about half a metre was a store, and yet the light was also coming from that direction.

One of my cousins woke up and was staring at me wondering what was up. What I remember happening next was that it was morning. I woke up, made breakfast for the family. As we were having breakfast my dad mentioned that there was a lot of noise in the middle of the night but nothing was stolen.

I keep wondering about that light and why it seemed to permeate all over the house.
