Why is it that atheists and non believers don’t seem to experience possessions or paranormal activities?

I’ve been obsessed with the paranormal and ghost stories since I was a kid. I always found it interesting that only religious people get possessed. Only people who believe in ghosts see them. Only people that believe in the supernatural have paranormal experiences. I am an atheist, but an open minded one. Like Molder, I want to believe. I have taken part in ghost hunts, seance etc but never had anything happen. While people with me claim to see or hear things. I find that usually what people hear or see has a rational explanation. But because they are looking for the paranormal, that’s what they assume it is. Meanwhile, I’m like no, that was a bird or that was the wind, because there’s the bird and its still windy. I would love to have an experience that makes me a believer. I would love one shred of evidence that ghosts or demons are real and not just the result of an over active imagination or mental illness. But in 30 plus years of research and investigation I have not seen it. Some people think you have to be open to it, and I feel like I am. I am an empath and a sensitive. I feel other people emotions and “vibes” and I’m incredibly intuitive to the point people have said I might be psychic, so if being open and sensitive are prerequisites for having an encounter, why don’t I have them? Why haven’t the dozens of other atheists/ non believers that I have spoken to about this had anything paranormal happen when their flatmates or friends with them have??
