Original Title: LPT: Be overly gentle, kind, unassuming, polite, innocent and even ignorant when phoning Customer Support for something. CS often have quite a bit of power to help, they just use it sparingly because most customers don’t seem to deserve it.

Being polite should be expected I know but overly so can get you somewhere. Customer support are only human like rest of us. I’ve spent enough time on the phone with customers to know that if someone just sounds great (think little old lady that wouldn’t harm a fly) I’ll move heaven and earth to help them. The confident, borderline aggressive know it all individual that seems to know my job better than me causes me to think ‘alright buddy, let’s play it by the rules’. Yes I suppose I’m saying ‘be nice’, but more than that, if you want something, play the game and you’ll get a lot further!
