I left the following text in a comment on a post about Black Eyed Kids. I figured I would share my story in a post incase anyone is interested in hearing accounts of the phenomenon.

Once when I was around 12, I experienced a situation where two odd looking kids who seemed out of place in time and appearance, appeared before me while I was shooting basketball free throws in the cul-de-sac at my childhood home. Sounds weird, but I swear this memory has stuck with me for 20 years. I was practicing my free throws on a mild autumn day, I remember it was cloudy and not quite dusk. I shot the ball and it bounced hard off the rim and rolled past me. I chased after it as it came to a stop next to some trashcans near the end of my neighbors driveway. There was no one else outside with me when I ran over to the ball. I bent over, picked up the ball, and when I stood back up, there were two children standing about 3 feet away from me.

They appeared as a girl and boy, the girl being around my age and the boy, probably around 5 or 6 years old. They had a pale, faintly olive skin tone and both had pitch black hair and dark eyes. If I had to guess their race I would guess Native American based on their facial features, but their skin tone did not make sense. I do not recall their eyes being fully black but I remember that their irises were very, very dark and their expressions lacked emotion. When I think back on it, they almost had a synthetic quality based on how perfect their appearance was.

Their apparel was very strange, they looked to be wearing very formal church clothing is how I’ve always described it. Except it looked like it was from a different era. This event took place back in like 2003 and these kids looked like they were from the early 1900’s. The girl wore braids, one going down to each shoulder almost kind of like Wednesday Adams. I remember that she wore a dress that had overall style straps. The boy was probably a foot shorter than her and he had a slicked combed over style haircut and jet black hair. He wore very nice but dated looking formal attire that was grey in color.

When I stood up and saw them, I locked eyes with the girl, then glanced down at the boy and then back to the girl. It took me a moment to even comprehend that they were standing there and then I timidly uttered, “hello?”. They said nothing and we stood there staring at each other for another second and then I felt this feeling pour over my body, like a cold dread. It immediately evoked my fight or flight and I chose flight. I ran across the cul-de-sac, up my driveway and into the house. Shouted for my mom to, “come look at these weird kids!”

She came outside with me and the two kids were gone. I ran to the end of the cul-de-sac and looked both ways and saw no one. We lived in that house since I was 4 and this was back when people were quite social with their neighbors, so we knew everyone in our circle. These kids were not family members of anyone, did not even look like they could be distant relatives of anyone we knew there. They seemed completely out of place. My whole life I chalked it up to something paranormal, like ghosts, or hopefully not something worse. Any time I tell someone about it I get the same chills and feeling of dread I felt when it happened.

I didn’t learn about the Black Eyed Kids phenomena until probably around age 22 when I was chilling at a friends house and came across something on the internet talking about urban legends. There was an entry about Black Eyed Kids, so I read about BEKs for the first time that night. The descriptions people gave immediately brought back memories of that time in the cul-de-sac when I was 12 and I immediately felt a pang of fear in my stomach. My experience is different than other experiences in that the two kids did not speak to me. However, the feeling they gave me after I spoke to them was haunting. Big time uncanny valley vibes and I’m not convinced they were just two random eccentrically dressed kids who were there the whole time and I never noticed.

If anyones ever had a similar experience, please share.
