Hey, r/Games!

My name is Artur, and today I would like to present you my second game:

Soulash 2 is a sandbox RPG roguelike about adventure and conquest.

You can see the trailer here: Soulash 2 Adventure Trailer

Demo is available on Steam and Itch.

It’s a sandbox game from a single-character perspective where you can adventure and discover procedurally generated points of interest, challenge yourself in combat with powerful beings, acquire rare magical ingredients for use in crafting, trade between settlements to amass your fortune, claim a region in the world to build your base, become a thieving menace on society and more.

The game features procedurally generated open worlds with simulated history, a skill-based character progression system, customizable combat abilities, material-based crafting, building, trading, and the possibility of total mayhem!

There are 3 game modes for different playstyles:

  1. High Fantasy - Your character revives upon death and you can continue as long as you want.
  2. Dark Fantasy - Your character may die in combat or from old age, but the world persists and you can continue influencing it with a new character.
  3. Hardcore - Typical traditional roguelike experience, permadeath destroys the world alongside your character.

Early Access

Early Access begins on December 4, and will last for about a year. During that time, I want to introduce 4 major additions to the game alongside the best player suggestions:

  1. Party mechanics, adventuring with NPCs.
  2. Settlement Management, inviting NPCs to our settlements.
  3. Armies and Conquest mechanics, taking over other NPC settlements, and new special locations for big battles.
  4. Continuation of the story from the first game as part of the history simulation process, worldwide events.

See more details about the roadmap and what to expect in the Steam Release announcement.

Moddable!

A few weeks after the Early Access release, Soulash 2 will offer access to a range of modding tools and configuration files, allowing the creation of new maps, locations, beings, items, skills, abilities, animations, races, civilizations, resources, dialogues, and more. It will be an extended version of what was available in the first game.

Here’s a screenshot of a WIP ability and animation maker window.

About Me

Some of you probably read this and thought, that’s way too ambitious for a solodev. And you would be right. Soulash 2 is the result of almost 7 years of iterations. It builds on the solid fundaments of the first game and 15 years of my programming experience.

Thanks to the success of the first game, I was able to attempt this next stage of my gamedev journey full time, contracting a graphic designer, a musician, and even getting my wife to use her D&D Dungeon Master skills to help with creating content - the benefit of the easy modding tools I’ve designed over the years, as she can’t code.

Up to this point, I’ve documented the process of building Soulash 2 in 40 devlogs released every 2 weeks, so for those of you who like to know how indie games are made, it should offer some interesting insight into how I approach it.

Demo & Wishlist!

Soulash 2 has a demo already available on Steam and will begin Early Access on December 4, so if you’re interested - try the demo or wishlist the game to get notified on release!

You can also follow the game’s development on Discord, Twitter, or Soulash Subreddit.
