The only reason I can think of as to why they never showed a 4th player is that they couldnt add a 5th, spectating player so they just used console commands to noclip and turn off hud. This does lead to a few weird things.
Firstly in the first scene of the Der Riese trailer. Where you see the characters, that Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen are all there while Dempsey is only implied to be there using the voice quotes. This is done a few times through out the trailer, though it seems Dempsey gets the short end of the stick usually, alot of trailers seeming to have one character that ends up getting substantially less screentime over the others.
Shi No Numa only seems to ever show one person at a time. Dempsey only appears in about 2 shots, with everyone else getting plenty of screentime.
Call of the Dead seems to be the first one to show off all the characters at once, and it was for two, stationary shost of everyone shooting together, and the second reloading together. How they suddenly developed the knowledge to pull this off, who knows. They probably implemented a way for the camera person to have their camera be in one place but act in another. The only shots where there are 4 people are all about chest to neck height, so that might be correlated.
After BO2, they had proper Theater support for zombies, so they became much more willing to do air shots of all the characters together moving and shooting.
BO3 seems to have gone back to the no 4 people rule, probably because Theater support was messed up and showed the points when gun fire was happening. They did start doing shots where there would be 3 people and the camera would be a no HUD player though.
I did not recheck Revelations and Gorod throughly, though seeing as they never fixed Theater, the chances of them fixing I doubt they have proper 4 people shots.
I did check some of BO4’s and they seemed to have gotten 4 player shots working; though there are trailers such as the Mad Hatter EE trailer that doesn’t seem to have 4 players; only fake shots where the characters are actually animated instead of proper player game aniamtions.
Why did I do this? I don’t know. Brain rot. I sleep now. Feel free to correct me how I somehow missed the most blatant use of 4 people possible.
