I’m saying this because I speak from experience and I really wish someone would have told me this months ago. My son left mid 2022. Before he left he saw as I did the inconsistencies of RMN and the 12. We discussed together things that were off about the church and the leaders. I told him to be careful of what he believed. But over time I have seen a very disturbing change in him, for the worst. The leaders can do no wrong, exmos are bitter and negative, “anti” material is false, he has discernment, he knows things are true, the media is wrong, etc.

I’m reading Freedom of Mind by Steven Hassan. He breaks down the BITE model into large sections with bullet points, which takes up 3 pages. Almost every single one of those points applies to the conditions of missionaries. Every. single. day they are under behavior control, information control, thought control and emotional control. It is heartbreaking. I know that some missionaries go home early or are escaping, however, it is not worth the risk to send your child to be further brainwashed every day. Even if they want to go, forbid it if at all possible. At the time my son left I was out of the church but I did not understand the severity of the situation. I am at a total loss on how to handle this. I hope to help others avoid potential heartbreak.
