If, like me, you’re unfortunate enough to have bought a television some time after 2019, you’ll know the dumb TV is effectively extinct. Instead, you’re forced to purchase a TV preloaded with bloatware and terrible software that makes my old Windows Vista era Compaq look lean and mean by comparison. And now I’m hearing they’re trying to shove AI into all the smart TVs now.

I’m sick of it. Is there an open source firmware alternative I can flash on my TCL television? It only needs to be able to display HDMI 1 through 3. I’m not deathly allergic to streaming service apps, even if they don’t work, because as long as I have my HDMI inputs I can always just pipe in YouTube/Netflix/whatever through my actual computer (or, if they ever actually get manufactured and weren’t just fake news, maybe a PS5?).
