Me (26f) and my partner (27m) live in his old childhood home, that has a really nice backyard.

My brother (31m) has a daughter who just started elementary school this year and who turned 7 last Monday, so me and my brother threw her a nice birthday party with all her friends from school on Saturday. We put on a Playlist with songs for children and organized a bunch of “old style games” like red light green light, tug of war and so on - mostly very rowdy games with lots of running involved, and with prizes to be won (little toys, colors and candies)

While we were starting to play, our neighbor emerged from her backyard looking quite pissed off and gestured at me to come closer. When I did she went off saying that I had made her son cry, that he was upset about not being invited and that she couldn’t get him to stop throwing a tantrum.

I replied that we barely knew them and that their son was too young for an elementary school party anyway, he could get really injured (he’s in kindergarten, I think he didn’t even turn 4 yet) but that he could come to have some cake and dance later in the day. My neighbor called us “inconsiderate assholes” and said that her son doesn’t eat that “processed garbage” before walking inside and slamming the door.

Were we really supposed to invite him, even though we barely even know them or is she being entitled? Tbh I think the latter but I do feel bad for that boy, having to watch other children having fun and not being able to participate
